Oh IKEA, I love you. You’re affordable, try to make things sustainable, and you’re conveniently right down the street from me. Well, it hasn’t always been that way. I remember when IKEA was a distant thought. In high school, over 10 years ago, I had been into IKEA a couple times. Over in Germany and Switzerland with one of my good friends, and in New York when I went to visit her parents. Yes, I was able to take some amazing trips in high school because one of my best friends was from Germany. I got to travel with her a couple times and stay with her family and friends, I am so thankful for those experiences. I just remember that going to IKEA was like going to am amusement park, you went there and spent ALL day, and were exhausted from all the shopping and fun. Katie, if you’re reading this, you need to have a kid so Edith has a pal to come visit and takes amazing trips with. (cough cough).
If you’ve never been into an IKEA, it’s hard to describe. They have literally EVERYTHING you could want or need for your home, apartment, backyard, baby nursery etc. They got me to pop in when they were running a 20% Friends and Family discount on duvets (sign up online if you haven’t, they send out emails about sales often!)
My reality. Living in my mother-in-law’s basement while house hunting. Sharing a room with a toddler. I’ve actually have been holding off on buying anything before we buy a house, but finally broke down and bought some bedding. I looked at Pottery Barn, West Elm and Crate & Barrel and the reality is to buy a duvet and two shams, you’re looking well over +$200! IKEA though, breaks through that reality and you can get a really nice duvet for under $40! I also might add, their duvets come with two shams. Even more savings!
One thing that I LOVE about IKEA is that their pillow inserts are insanely affordable and that their pillow covers are too. If you have kids or pets, you know how important it is to be able to zip off the cover and toss it in the wash. I picked out some fun patterns and textures and added a little “Kelsey” touch to our bed without upsetting my husband with too many florals. Well, he’s actually really low key but he would have complained. So I snuck in a couple accents.
I decided to go with a white duvet and throw in some fun accents. IKEA has tons of fun patterns and colors, but I wanted to keep it neutral and accent with some of my favorite colors. Also, I wanted to keep the bed more neutral because my husband technically gets half of it. I was able to add my favorite blush pink color as an accent in the euro pillows and toss a floral in for fun. I will say, I need to make another trip to IKEA for a fourth euro pillow, our king bed needs one more.
